PoPs - The Short Film
Creative Director, Producer, and Editor — February 2023
PoPs is a minimalist narrative and social commentary on the quiet damage of absent fathers. The story follows a self-involved man whose emotional detachment slowly dissolves his relationship with his child.
The child is never seen on screen. Their voice is muffled, barely cutting through the surrounding sound design—an intentional choice to reflect the father’s inability to truly hear, notice, or connect with them.
As the relationship deteriorates, the father remains unaware—until his child stops trying to connect. The weight of his absence hits him and panic sets in. The score swells, the atmosphere tightens, and he’s left to confront the irreversible loss of a bond he neglected to build.
PoPs is a broad reflection on how critical a father’s presence is in the emotional life of a child. In the end, it stands as a call for fathers to step up in the lives of their children and choose to steward their relationship with love.
